BNC connector is very popular way of terminating coaxial cables of radio frequency signals. Now a question arises in our mind, how to terminate BNC connectors? We may need to crimp them for Ethernet networks. This article will help you in learning how to terminate BNC connectors. First of all you need following things: coaxial cable, BNC connector, crimp ferrule, cable stripper, and BNC crimping tool. These ingredients are essential to terminate BNC connectors. Below is the process i.e. how to perform it:
- Slit the cable's end. Make a very clean and swift 90 degree cut through the cable along with the cut portion of cable stripper. Now, over the cable's end place a quantity of crimp ferrule and start sliding it down the coaxial cable till the end it's needed.
- Then without damaging other layers remove 5/16th inch of the sheath from end of the cable. Copper braiding should be folded back from inner sheath and pulled back. This is done to fit copper braiding snugly over periphery of the sheath.
- Now slit the exposed sheath of inner area from rest 1/4th inch of cable. But be careful that you don't cut the inner core of copper braiding. By doing so you will expose 1/4th inch of copper core. Now carefully slide the copper core's end to an angle of 45 degree but without cutting more than required.
- Slide the BNC connector into the end of coaxial cable till the point at which outer sheath gets flushed with inner face of the connector. The exposed copper braid should be folded back over connector and cable should be firmly seated within the BNC connector.
- Lastly, slide crimp ferrule onto the cable and start pushing it over connector and folded braiding till the point possible. Then, crimp with appropriate tool.
